Introducing internet Explorer 9
The beta releases of IE9, and with each one performance has got better and better. Whilst the final release details are still being closely guarded by Microsoft, we do know a few key points for certain:
CSS
IE9 will support nearly all CSS 3 selectors, and this means support for features such as rounded corners, gradients and more – a key update that web designers can get excited about!
HTML 5
Support for HTML 5 will allow embedding of video and audio, as well as features like geolocation and the canvas element.
Javascript
IE9 has a brand new Javascript engine - ‘Chakra’. The latest release has been tested in Acid 3 (which measures web browser performance with web standards compatibility) and scored 95/100. To put this in comparison the current release of Firefox scores 94/100!
Fonts
An exciting and often overlooked development in IE9 has been the inclusion of WOFF (Web Open Font Format) support. This looks likely to be a standard for embedding fonts, and W3C are currently looking at making this the standard font embedding method.
